Weekly News Oct. 27 - Oct. 31


What are we learning this week?
  • Math -  Fact Families 6 – 9, dividing with 0 and 1, drawing division pictures = Test on Friday 10/31
  • Language Arts  - Story: Here’s My Dollar, Genre: Nonfiction, Skill: Author’s Purpose, Grammar: Possessive Nouns
  • Writing – Informative, Expository
    • Cursive - Uppercase alphabet – almost complete, Students have already started writing their homework in cursive.
    • Vocabulary – tour, volunteers, thrilled, slogan, deserve
    • Science/Social Studies/Health - Monday 10/27, Wednesday 10/29, and Thursday 10/30
      Mrs. Aceves = Health, Mrs. Barnes = Science, and Ms. Ryan = Social Studies
    • Art Fall landscapes – Almost complete!

    Please Note:

    •      On Monday, November 3rd, all 3rd – 6th grade Mt. Washington teachers will attend a one day math training.  Unfortunately, this means I will be out of the classroom again.  Mr. Cruz will be the substitute this day, and I will leave him very thorough lesson plans.


           We are looking for Halloween treats to fill the broomstick bags.  If you are able to donate, please have your child bring the candy to Mrs. Barnes by 10/31.

    A note from Ms. Ryan:
    Social Studies Homework:  Read & Review Lessons1 through 4 packets along with Study Notes. Lesson 4 packets (pp.53-64) are due this week during the assigned class time and day.  Packets may be handed in early to Ms. Ryan.  The packet is both classwork and homework.  Students are given time to complete in class and asked to re-read and review for homework.  Lost packets can be downloaded from Room 13’s website.
    Additionally, packets may be used as a resource for their Unit test.  Unit test next week, WEEK OF 11/3.  Native American Reports were due last week (10/24) Late Reports will not be accepted for full credit and require a signed parental letter noting an acceptable reason (i.e. illness, personal emergency).  No reports will be accepted after 10/29.

    Mrs. Aceve:  She assigns homework periodically.  Homework will be written down in their homework logs.  Due Monday 10/27= A red ribbon family poster.  The poster can be 8 ½ by 11 or 9 by 12.  Students wrote down directions in class. 

    Mrs. Barnes - No homework will be assigned by Mrs. Barnes.  All Assignments are in class.  An end of the unit test will be given.  Study guides will be provided one week in advance of the test.

        10/30 – Day of the Dead Celebration 12:50 – 2:30 with Marley's mom and Jaime's mom.

        10/31 – Witches broomstick treat bags with Kyle’s mom – 11:10 – 12:10
        10/31 – Halloween Parade – Please bring your costume in a bag.  
                     The parade is 1:15 – 2:15.
        11/3 – Mrs. Barnes at a Math training – Mr. Cruz will Substitute

        • Language Arts  - Story: Coasting to California, Genre: Nonfiction, Skill: Main Idea / Supporting Details, Grammar: Nouns = Plural
        • Writing – Informative Introduction
          • Cursive -   Uppercase alphabet 
          • Vocabulary – culture, communities, immigrants, established, traditional
          • Science/Social Studies/Health - Monday 10/20, Wednesday 10/22, and Thursday 10/23

          Please Note:

          •      Nightly homework resumes this week.  Ms. Ryan’s Native American report is due on Friday, October 24th

              Weekly News Oct. 13 - Oct. 17


              What are we learning this week?
              • Math -   District Math Test on Wednesday 10/15.  Monday and Tuesday are review days.
              • Language Arts  -   District Writing Assessment – This assessment will be given all week
              • Cursive -   Uppercase alphabet 
              • Science/Social Studies/Health - Monday 10/6, Wednesday 10/8, and Thursday 10/9Mrs. Aceves = Health, Mrs. Barnes = Science, and Ms. Ryan = Social Studies
              • Art - Fall Landscapes

              Please Note:

              •     Due to the district math and writing assessments this week, I will not be assigning any nightly homework.  However, spelling packet is due Thursday 10/16, current events are due Friday 10/17, and the Native American report is due Friday 10/24. Please continue to read 30 minutes every night.  Additionally, we will not be writing homework down in the homework logs.  Nightly homework will begin again on Monday, 10/20.

                    Ms. Ryan assigned a Social Studies project due on October 24th.  Please ask your child to show you the assignment.  All students have chosen a tribe and have a handout about their tribe.  If your child is not satisfied with their tribe or they have questions, please see Ms. Ryan.
