Weekly News Feb. 23th - Feb. 27th


What are we learning this week?
  • Math -  CCSS Topic 16 - Data  -   pictographs, bar graphs, and tables   
  • Language Arts  -  New theme:  Our Teams.  A new story will be read this week.  Homework will include: Mon. – vocabulary, Tues. = masterpiece sentences, Wed. = reading comp., and Thurs. – depth and complexity
  • Spelling  Lesson 27.  The spelling packet and test is due on 2/26.
  • Art - Hot air balloons – Mixing the primary colors
  • Writing Pourquoi Tales
  • Science/Social Studies/Health - Rotations this week are scheduled for 2/23, 2/25, and 2/26 – There will be a Social Studies Test this week.  Study notes went home last week and are also online.  Science review sheets will go home this week.  The test will be on Friday 3/6 regardless of what group you are i

Please Note:
   Our first field trip will be to the California Science Center on March 4.  Information and trip slips went home last week.  We have more than enough drivers and will not need everyone who volunteered.  I will be in contact with you if you will be driving, therefore, please sign for your child not just the personal vehicle trip slip, but also the bus field trip slip.  If you signed up to drive and chaperone, we will still need you to chaperone the trip.  Thank you for your understanding and patience as the third grade teachers go through all the field trip paperwork!!!!

    Congratulations to Luke, Micah, Silas, and Dillon for making their Accelerated Reader goal of 100+ points by the end of third grade.  Awesome reading boys!!!!!

   Congratulations to Stella and Renee for passing Math Madness.  You are terrific with your math facts!!!!!   


• Thank you to all the parent volunteers who coordinated and ran the indigo dyeing project.  We are so lucky to have you and your talents!!!!!

      What are we learning this week?

      • Language Arts  -  This week our focus is on Unit 4 – Our Teams.  The Unit Opener will be on Monday 2/17.  Our first story will be the week of 2/23.
      • Spelling  Lesson 26.  The spelling packet and test is due on 2/19.

          The Smarter Balance test will be given this year on the iPads.  A note regarding this test went home last week.  In order to prepare students, Room 14 will be taking the practice test in the library this Thursday, February 19 from 9 – 11.

         This Friday, February 20, we will be participating in the indigo napkin project for the silent auction.  If you have not donated $5 towards this project, please do so if you are able.  Also, if you would like your child to dye a personal item, please send this item to school with a Ziploc bag.  Items must be made out of cotton, silk, or linen

          Weekly News Feb. 9th - Feb. 13th


          What are we learning this week?
          • Math -  We will be preparing for the district math test scheduled for this week.  Reviews will be going home.    
          • Language Arts  -  This week our focus is on wrapping up Unit 3 – Express Yourself.  We will be reading two stories, which will review skills we have learned in the unit.  Stories:  Felicia’s Choice – Fiction, and Design Your Own Journal – Nonfiction
          • Vocabulary A vocabulary test reviewing all words in Unit 3 will be given on 2/12.  A review sheet will go home 2/9.  
          • Spelling  Lesson 25.  The spelling packet and test is due on 2/12. 
          • Art - Hot air balloons – Mixing the primary colors
          • Science/Social Studies/Health  Rotations this week are scheduled for 2/9, 2/11, and 2/12
