Weekly News Jan. 26th - Jan. 30th


What are we learning this week?
  • Math -   Fractions – Comparing Fractions, Using Fractions, and Fractions on a Number Line.  We will be preparing for the district math test scheduled for the week of 2/9.  
  • Language Arts  -  This week and next, our focus is on the district writing assessment.  The assessment covers writing, reading, listening, speaking, language, and science standards.  
  • Spelling  Lesson 22.  The spelling packet and test is due on 1/29.
  • Art – Art portfolios
  • Science/Social Studies/Health - Rotations this week are scheduled for 1/26, 1/27, and 1/29

Please Note:
     Language Arts homework this week and next will be sporadic and not typical due to the district writing assessment.  Math will remain the same.  Please refer to the homework journal and my website for nightly homework.

    There are no stories or vocabulary homework this week and next due to the writing assessment.  The writing assessment has these elements, but needs to be completed in class.


   On Thursday, Jan. 29, Ranger Jasmine will be conducting a lesson for us in the garden from 11:30 – 12:00.  Please wear appropriate clothing. 



      UPCOMING EVENTS:

      1/27 – Early dismissal 1:30
      1/26, 1/28, 1/29 – Science, S.S., Health Rotations – Homework was assigned last week in S.S. and in Health.  They are both due this week depending on what day your group has S.S. and Health. 

      1/29 – Garden lesson 11:30 – 12:00

         Scholastic Book Order due on Wednesday 1/21


      •  We will be taking the STAR Accelerated Reading test in the computer lab this week.  Students will receive a new independent reading level.  Results will be sent home once all students have been tested.

          What are we learning this week?
          • Math -   Fractions – Comparing Fractions, Using Fractions, and Fractions on a Number Line.  We will be preparing for the district math test scheduled for the week of 2/9.  
          • Language Arts  -  Story:  What do Illustrators do?, Genre: narrative nonfiction,  skill: sequence, grammar – future-tense verbs
          • Spelling Lesson 20.  The spelling packet is due 1/15.  The test is also on 1/15.
          • Writing –  Informative, Expository  – Steps to making a pancake.  We will be preparing to take the district writing test scheduled for the week of 1/26.
          • Vocabulary –   instance, illustrate, style, textures, sketches, suggestions
          • Science/Social Studies/Health -   Rotations begin this week.  They are scheduled for Monday 1/12, Wednesday 1/14, and Thursday 1/15 from 1:30 – 2:15.  Ms. Ryan teaches Social Studies, Mrs. Aceves teaches Health, and Mrs. Barnes teaches Science.  Group 1 = Kyle, Stella, Henry, Joy, Jaime, Marianna, Bobby, Iman.  Group 2 = Micah, Lauren, Iztli, August, Max, Ryan, Marley, Sevilla.  Group 3 = Luke, Dillon, Renee, Silas, Isabel, Juliet, Gianna, Connor.  Reminder:  If you have Social Studies on a Monday, your homework is due the following Monday.

               Welcome back and Happy New Year!!!! 

              The winter break homework is due Monday, 1/12.  Please turn it in as soon as possible for credit.
